Speaking

Say the hard thing out loud.

I speak about the conversations people spend lifetimes avoiding — and about what it costs when we keep avoiding them. Clinical audiences, leadership meetings, governance forums, and rooms full of people who have quietly been carrying something.

Say What Matters, While It Matters

20 Lessons From My Life Inside Hospice

Twenty years in post-acute care taught me that almost nothing people regret is about treatment. It is about what went unsaid, and who was not in the room when it mattered.

This keynote is built from twenty lessons learned at bedsides, in family conferences, and in my own family — five times over, as the one holding the paperwork and the grief at the same time. It is not a talk about dying. It is a talk about saying the true thing while the person is still here to hear it, and about why so many of us wait until we cannot.

Audiences laugh more than they expect to and cry less than they fear. People leave with language they can use that week — at a bedside, in a staff meeting, or at their own kitchen table.

  • Why the hardest conversations get postponed, and the specific costs of postponing them
  • Language that opens a conversation instead of closing it
  • How to stay in the room when there is nothing to fix
  • What grief actually asks of a workplace, a family, and a clinician
